St. Ruvinheigen was a Church crusader some centuries before the events of the series. Renowned for his military campaigns leading a company of holy knights against the northern pagans, Ruvinheigen expanded the Church's influence in the region at great personal cost. He had flaming, flowing red hair with a full beard and an austere look on his face. His known weapons were a sword, shield, and spear. It is known that he was born during the winter, as this occasion was commemorated. The city of Ruvinheigen, then a fortress outpost, is his namesake.
Church tradition holds that Ruvinheigen had red hair and lost his left arm in fighting the pagans. A contemporary account by Holo verifies the saint's hair color but sheds doubt on the details of his injury.
According to Holo, during Ruvinheigen's lifetime (approximately in his forties or fifties), he led his knights near Pasloe and came across Holo at night during the full moon. Denouncing her as a demon on sight he and his company charged at her, but having had enough of them, she simply changed form and drove them off. At the end, she left Ruvinheigen a particularly embarrassing souvenir of their encounter: a bite to the ass. She would recall it as being "sinewy and quite nasty."
In the town market square of Ruvinheigen, a statue of St. Ruvinheigen stands in battle-ready pose atop a tall pedestal. In the anime the figure is an equestrian statue instead.
